Phi Kappa Mu Fraternity Launches New Project Hero Comic

Fifty-one children and their parents and companions from Silahis ng Kalusugan UP Manila – Philippine General Hospital, Cancervants, and Bahay Aruga had a morning to remember at Project Hero: Pag-asa at Lakas ng Bawat Bata last 28 January 2018 at the Children’s Playground in Rizal Park.

The children enjoyed eating ice cream and cotton candy, playing simple games, and getting sticker tattoos, among numerous other activities and booths set-up by ates and kuyas from various student organizations.

Members of the Phi Kappa Mu Fraternity prepared a short presentation featuring the comic book superhero, Sinag. The event was also attended by the creators of Sinag #1, Dr. Topher Constantino, ϕ 2009 (writer), Mr. Ace Chin (writer), Mr. Rico Rival (illustrator), and Mr. Peejay Catacutan (colorist). These men, experienced in the comic book industry and having worked on international titles from DC and Marvel as well as the local scene, generously shared their talents to share Sinag’s message of hope and empowerment.

Project Hero is a service project created by the Phi Kappa Mu as a tribute to the daily battles of pediatric cancer patients of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH), using the power of comic books to convey a message of hope. Through Sinag and his story, Project Hero hopes to inspire, empower, and strengthen the kids through the difficulties of chemotherapy. The funds generated by the project will go towards helping the Cancer Institute of the PGH.

Phi Kappa Mu was joined by the following partner organizations: Phi Lambda Delta Sorority, UP Biochemistry Society, UP Manila – OMAKE, UP Manila Campus Life, Public Health Artists’ Circle, UP Health Sciences and Pre-Medicine Society, UP Medicine Student Council, UPCN Young Empowered Advocates towards Responsible Nursing, UP Nursings Artists’ Corps, UP Flyers, UP Delta Lambda Sigma Sorority, UP Task Force Arki, Alliance of UPLB Scholars, UP Human Ecology Student Society, Philippine Association of Nutrition – Omega Chapter, UA&P POLIS, and DLSU Chemistry Society.
